Client Self Checkout: What It Means for Barbers

How barbers use Self Checkout, what to do if a client doesn't check out themselves, and how to confirm a client's payment status.

Clients Can Now Complete Checkout From Their Own Device

Self Checkout gives clients the ability to review and complete checkout for an eligible appointment directly from theCut.

After their appointment, clients can review their payment information and tip and complete the appointment from their own device.

Here's what that means for you.

How Self Checkout Works for Clients

When an appointment becomes eligible for checkout, the client will see the option to complete it from their Home screen.

From there, they can:

  1. Open the appointment.

  2. Review their appointment and payment details.

  3. Confirm or adjust their payment method, when available.

  4. Confirm or adjust their tip.

  5. Tap Complete to finish checkout.

Once checkout is successfully completed, the appointment moves to Completed status.

What Does This Change for Me?

Self Checkout gives your client another way to complete the payment process.

If the client has already successfully completed checkout, you don't need to process the same payment again.

Before attempting to collect payment, check the appointment and transaction status to confirm whether checkout has already been completed.

⚠️ Important: Always verify the transaction status before attempting another charge. This helps prevent accidentally charging your client twice.

How Do I Know If My Client Completed Checkout?

Check the appointment details and payment status to confirm whether the transaction was successfully completed.

While the client is still in the shop, review this status directly and verify they've successfully submitted payment before they leave.

What If My Client Doesn't Use Self Checkout?

If a client doesn't complete Self Checkout, you can still process their appointment payment normally.

We recommend completing checkout while the client is still in the shop — either by requesting they complete Self Checkout before they leave, or by processing the appointment yourself. Handling it in person makes it much easier to resolve any payment issue right away, instead of trying to track the client down after they've left.

You can also always collect payment in person using Tap to Pay or another available payment method.

What If the Client's Payment Doesn't Go Through?

If Self Checkout isn't successfully completed, check the appointment's payment status before taking another action.

Depending on the issue, the client may need to:

  • Verify their payment information

  • Update their payment method

  • Try another available payment method

  • Check their internet connection

If you're unsure whether the transaction processed, verify its status before attempting another charge.

This is especially important if there was a connection issue during checkout.

Self Checkout vs. Tap to Pay

Self Checkout and Tap to Pay both help complete payment, but they work differently.

Build Checkout Into Your Appointment Routine

Self Checkout can make checkout easier, but you should still make sure every appointment is properly completed.

Before your client leaves:

  • Make sure they know checkout is available.

  • Give them a moment to review their payment and tip.

  • Confirm that checkout was successfully completed.

  • Check the transaction status if anything looks unusual.

  • Don't attempt another charge without verifying whether the first transaction processed.

💡 Business Tip: Completing checkout while the client is still with you makes it much easier to resolve payment issues immediately instead of trying to track them down later.

Good to Know

  • Self Checkout is a client-side checkout option.

  • Tap to Pay is a barber-side in-person payment option.

  • A client starting checkout doesn't necessarily mean the payment successfully processed. Confirm the final transaction status.

  • Never attempt another charge until you've verified whether the original transaction was successful.
